Family Therapy

Healthy family functioning is a central aspect of a happy life. When we struggle with our family, other areas of our lives suffer, including our careers, school, and potentially our community. Family stress puts its members at risk for mood disturbance and destructive behaviors such as infidelity, alcohol, substance abuse and eating disorders. Families at any stage, from the birth of a child to caring for aging parents, can experience conflict, misunderstanding, and worst of all, estrangement. I have extensive experience in treating families at all life stages and welcome all members of the family into my practice. In addition, I work with families and caregivers who have loved ones who struggle with neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

I work very closely with families, drawing heavily from their understanding of themselves and I am sensitive to culture, ethnicity, and family faith tradition. The work can be challenging. But I encourage a balanced perspective, addressing family strengths while using every opportunity for levity as we develop strategies that promote conflict resolution and healing.
