Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety: Truth be told, my work with anxious clients can be my most rewarding. People who suffer with anxiety tend to be active thinkers, bring in a great deal of energy, and are ready and eager to do the often challenging work necessary to successfully manage their anxiety. Anxiety disorders are quite common. Forty million American adults suffer from anxiety. The good news is that there is plenty of research that shows us how to successfully treat this painful condition. I help clients become anxiety experts. When they understand the "hows" and "whys" of anxiety, it is easier to make behavioral changes and shifts in thinking that minimize anxious symptoms. Most of my clients are surprised and relieved to see how quickly their symptoms resolve. The work isn’t easy, but tried and true strategies can often bring about relief from the discomfort caused by the various manifestations of anxiety. So whether you or your child suffers from Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Social Anxiety, Phobias, anxiety related to health problems, I can help you free yourself of this upsetting and limiting condition.

Depression: It feels like the lights have gone out. When people are depressed, they feel heavy-hearted, one’s spirit is laid low, and one’s hope and a sense of control can be tenuous. Individuals may experience depression for many reasons including death of a loved one, a divorce, job loss, and the loss we experience when our children move away from us into adulthood. Depression is also a biomedical condition that can present any time during our lives.

My approach is hands-on and active. Similar to anxiety, how we think about ourselves, others, and our world affects our emotions and actions. Changes in thinking and behavior can result in improved in mood.

I offer a warm, caring and supportive place for clients to discuss their feelings and we identify the most effective responses to depression which result in a resolution of symptoms. When necessary, I will refer clients to a psychiatrist who can determine if medical support can bring about a more complete recovery. I work with psychiatrists who offer a caring, empathic experience with solid medical advice. The psychiatrist and I will work closely to ensure a highly coordinated clinical experience giving clients the best chance for returning to a fuller, happier life.
